Black Label Society – Engines of Demolition

The Berserker is at it again.

I preordered my autographed copy and it landed the day of release. The first thing I can say about this album: I was not disappointed. I popped the CD into my Kenwood deck and took the kind of ride only Zakk Wylde can send you on—from the heist-highs of a roller coaster with his ear-splitting, teeth-shattering solos to the lowest drops of those deep, dark chugs Zakk delivers so effortlessly.

With Zakk on lead, John DeServio on bass, Jeff Fabb on drums, and Dario Lorina on rhythm guitar, you’re guaranteed a tight, unapologetic, in-your-face album. Engines of Demolition is unlike any previous BLS record; in this writer’s opinion, it’s a total breath of fresh air. These tracks put Black Label on a new path while keeping that core metalhead attitude.

The Black Sabbath influence is massive here. As for the Ozzy song, I won’t review it individually—partly out of respect for the legendary Metal God, and partly because it’s such a heartfelt tribute.

The Bottom Line: I’d like to thank Zakk and the crew for delivering exactly what we needed: a hard-hitting album. Would I recommend buying Engines of Demolition? Most definitely. If you’re a true metalhead in every sense of the word, you will not be disappointed.
